Flagger-Mac Gate Block Error Troubleshooting

Synopsis: If your AFAD gate arm gets stuck or stops moving, you may have an Error: Gate Block Error show up on the touch screen. This guide will cover the various components and wires to check to help isolate & fix the issue.

  • Level: Intermediate
  • Time required: Will vary depending on experience but should take roughly 5-10 minutes.
  • Additional equipment required: Philips screwdriver, spare parts if possible

1. Check all connectors on the touch screen & accessory card. Also, verify the correct wire colors & screws

1.1. Power cable

1.2. COM 1 & COM 2 wires

1.3. J4/J5 (Actuator Signal Connector)

1.4. J7 (Top & Bottom Sensor Connector)

1.5. J2 (Potentiometer Signal Connector)

2. Check the Gate Configuration option in the touch screen

Note: For Timeout(sec), it is important to make sure this setting is at 5 or more seconds. Anything less, and the gate will fall into error, as it was not given enough time to complete a full run. The default setting is 5 seconds, but it could be bumped up to 10 (mainly colder regions) to give the gate more time.

3. Check if the LEDs on the top & bottom sensors are lighting up

Note: You can activate the sensor LED by placing a piece of metal in front of it. If the LED does not light up, you could have a defective sensor or a loose cable.

4. Check the K-1804E cable coming from the red lamp to the receiver

5. Look for green LED on the AFAD receiver box

Note: If there is no green LED on the box, make sure there is power getting to it. If possible, try swapping it out with a known working one from a different unit.

6. In the control box, verify the wires on the relay card (under the touch screen)

Note: The J6 wire is for the potentiometer. If your gate moves up or down a few inches before blocking, it could be the J6 wire is unplugged, or simply bad.
